Title: Greatness Remembered: Sandy Kofax | Limited Edition 25 Sandy Kofax was one of the greatest pitchers in baseball and left an indelible mark through his relatively short career that ended with continuing arthritis. This painting was done to capture a past era where achievements were earned on the field of play. I used a color palette that is more often found in impressionistic paintings however retained a contemporary style. I used a heavier brushstroke and impasto layering of color to reflect the intensity of the subject. The intensity of Sandy's expression as he strategizes his next pitch is the compelling element. As a result, I blended his uniform with the background so his expression is the singular focus of the viewer's eye. Sandy played for the Brooklyn/ LA Dodgers between 1955-1966. Some of his achievemements would include the following: » Second in career no-hitters at 14 » 1 of 17 pitchers to throw a perfect game (1965). » Second behind Nolan Ryan with single season strikeouts of 382. » Led the National League ERA 5 consecutive years; strikeouts 4 years » Averaged a .95 ERA in 4 World Series. » Won the Cy Young Award 3 times unanimously; World Series MVP 2 times. |
